Best ways to farm old content for transmog?

Post by annawonka »

Hi everyone! I’ve recently started looking for unique transmog sets from older expansions in WoW. I’m curious—what are your favorite methods or dungeons/raids to farm old content efficiently? Any tips or unusual spots that work really well?

Hi,

Is there any specific stuff you are looking for?
Most classes can solo all vanilla dungeons.
One way or the other anyway.

Here's a bit from my experience:
All my toons/different classes are going for the Tier 0.5 / Dungeon set.
And upgrading them using the quests, starting in Ironforge for Alliance.
While going for these higher dungeons, the set drops in, I also did all the possible quests there.

So far I only need the Chest piece for some of my toons.

Some random tips:

- Go with a friend. Sure at level 80 you're overpowered to do lvl 60 dungeons. But it goes a lot lot faster when you do this together. Especially at parts where you can split up. Stratholme (Undead part goes in a loop, so each go one way), Scholomance (the 4 rooms in the end), UBRS (first room).

- Check wowhead or whatever page you find useful to see where drops what. And what parts are BoE or BoP (obvious one I guess)

- It's a pro to have all the different professions in the game. Some obscure materials are hard to come by. And never seen on the AH.
So it's best to supply yourself with that. Especially Enchanting materials, you need loads of Large Brilliant Shards.
Maybe unless you know people with these professions. But that would require more planning ahead.

- BoE gear you can easily farm for all the classes.

- Scholomance can be a challenge due to the Magic Immune mobs near the Viewing Room door. So that's pretty much a no-go for mages.
Unless you wand them down. You can't freeze them, either. So you need to tank them. I had a friend running it with me. Got the Headpiece on the second run. And the Shoulder part on the first run.
Most of my toons weren't that lucky. Some went there at least 10 times.

- Scholomance. Stratholme, LBRS/UBRS. You can't reset these dungeons. So you can only do them once a day.
However! What you can do is invite a friend. Or let him invite you. And enter the dungeon together. This way you will enter a brand new run.

- Stratholme. Roughest for Paladin. You need to tackle both sides. Scarlet and Undead. Since both of the pieces you need are from the last bosses of each side. But since you're probably lvl 80, this shouldn't be a big deal. You run pass about every mob and and go straight to the Scarlet boss for the kill. Keep in mind, the scarlet boss needs to finish his transformation. Or else he won't drop anything.

- Stratholme: The mage feet part drops from Hearthsinger Forresten. According to sources. He can spawn in a couple of places in Stratholme. During my mage runs, I only saw him at this location. Service gate entrance, go left under the gate, and left around the corner. Use /target Hearth
And blast away.

- So far UBRS is the most annoying for me. The Rend/Gyth fight needs to be done in a very slow manner.
Use a timer of 3 minutes per fight.
If you kill them too fast, the gate won't open. So far this still hasn't been fixed.

- UBRS. The Beast drops another Paladin part. I couldn't kill it with my paladin. He bounces you through the whole room. So lot of fall damage. Bring a friend.

- UBRS. The last boss will stun/fear/disorient you every few seconds. So for melee this can be a problem.

- In general do some test runs to get the optimal route. In LBRS you can drop/float down at the start to go for a Shaman or Hunter part for example.

- Set your HS at a town nearby.

Not related to transmog, but may as well add this:
- DIre Maul, Strat and UBRS have some random boxes or mobs with patterns for Blacksmithing. And also the Top and Bottom Half of Advanced Armorsmithing: Volume I and II can be found.
As well as a BS quest from Winterspring leads to UBRS. (counts for Loremaster)

- During these runs you will get a lot of Runecloth. Turn them in at each capital. The first turn in per capital also counts for Loremaster.

- Save obscure materials, you may need them some day.
However, for the Tier 0 upgrade you don't need any BoP materials I believe. But in general it's a good idea to keep any BoP stuff you can find.

I have no experience in getting Raid gear btw.
For my hunter it took me too long to kill just a few mobs in AQ40/20 or MC.
So I gave up on that.
If you have a cool guild, these dungeons can be done with just a buch of random people.
Maybe 10 or so.

I usually pick one expansion per week and clear everything with a high-mobility class like a Druid or DH — it makes farming way faster.sprunki
Ulduar and Throne of Thunder are my go-tos for unique sets, and Firelands still has some of the best glowing weapons.
Simple rule: more alts = more loot chances.
