Newbie question about maniac points

How does one get them? Watched a video and it was said they are given at level 10 and in increments of 10 levels is this correct?

They are awarded automatically, however the levels they are awarded at now starts at level 20, to prevent some exploit abuse that was happening.
Overall you will get the same amount on your total journey to level 80.
